Hartzler statement on President Obama's failure to submit a budget to Congress
Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has issued the following statement on President Obama’s failure to meet the deadline for submitting his Fiscal Year 2014 budget to Congress:
“I am disappointed, but not surprised, at President Obama’s failure to meet his legal obligation to deliver his 2014 budget to Congress by today’s deadline. This is the fourth time in the last five years that he has failed to comply with the legal deadline for presenting a budget. All across Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District, families and businesses create budgets to set spending priorities. They deserve the same from their President and he has consistently let them down.
In less than a month, devastating defense cuts will take place due to sequestration. The President has claimed in the past that these cuts will not happen. Where is his budget plan to prevent these cuts and rein in our burdening debt? Actions speak louder than words, and the House of Representatives has repeatedly passed responsible budgets and sequestration solutions that cut out-of-control spending while encouraging economic growth. It is time for President Obama and Senate Democrats to follow suit. That’s the least hardworking Americans should expect from their President and Senate.”
Congresswoman Hartzler serves on the House Budget Committee as well as on the House Armed Services and Agriculture Committees.
