Pro-Life Congresswomen Applaud 2016 March for Life Theme, Urge Young Pro-Life Women to Run for Office
The theme for the 2016 March for Life is “Pro-Life and Pro-Woman Go Hand-In-Hand,” a theme pro-life congresswomen applauded.
In a video produced by the Susan B. Anthony List, the Knights of Columbus and the March for Life and shown to participants at the annual pro-life event Friday, congressional members of the Pro-life Women’s Caucus shared advice for pro-life women and encouraged young pro-life women to run for office and join them in Congress.
The video featured Republican Reps. Ann Wagner (Mo.), Vicky Hartzler (Mo.), Mimi Walters (Calif.), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (Fla.), Virginia Foxx (N.C.), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Wash.), Diane Black (Tenn.) and Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.), as well as Republican Sen. Deb Fischer (Neb.).
At the rally prior to the March for Life, another pro-life female legislator, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), said that the theme “is such an important message.”
“Many of those fighting against us have claimed that our efforts to defend and protect life at all stages of development constitute a ‘War on Women,’” Ernst said. “I reject that.”
“Being pro-life means you recognize the joint responsibility of a mother, father, and society at large to protect and nurture each and every life from the moment that it is created, and you see abortion as a reflection of our collective failure to meet that responsibility — and not as a litmus test for the advancement of women’s rights,” Ernst said.
