Hartzler Announces Economic Development Award for Kaysinger Basin Regional Planning Commission
HARRISONVILLE, MO – Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-04) announces a $192,500 grant awarded to the Kaysinger Basin Regional Planning Commission. This grant was disbursed by the Economic Development Administration (EDA) under the Department of Commerce.
The grant helps the Kaysinger Basin Regional Planning Commission, which comprises the counties of Bates, Benton, Cedar, Henry, Hickory, St. Clair, and Vernon, to establish an economic development planning framework to create new jobs in the region and bolster economic opportunities in surrounding areas.
The creation of the comprehensive economic development strategy includes building public and private sector relationships and support private capital investment in the region. Specifically, the Commission will spend this money to help respond to COVID-19 needs, hire an additional planning coordinator and an additional grant writer, and to respond to community needs through the subsidizing of economic development in the counties it serves.
The EDA was established in the 1960s to help communities throughout the country rebuild the necessary infrastructure to foster growth and help stimulate regional economies. Congresswoman Hartzler supported $1.5 billion of funding to the EDA under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES Act) in March 2020.
