Hartzler Casts Vote to Advance Tax Reform
WASHINGTON-Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.) today supported the Senate Amendment to the FY 2018 Budget Resolution, which allows Congress to move forward with historic tax reform through the legislative process of reconciliation. The measure passed the House and establishes a path forward to restrain spending, reduce taxes and provide for economic growth.
"House passage of the budget allows the Congress to overhaul our antiquated tax system, which has not been significantly reformed since Ronald Reagan was president," Hartzler said. "It is time to reform our tax code with a more efficient, fairer and simpler process while providing tax relief for those who need it most--the middle class."
Additionally, the budget resolution provides for the reconciliation process, which allows the Senate to pass tax reform with a majority vote, bypassing the 60-vote threshold, which has recently been used to hold up several different legislative measures.
"I look forward to working with the White House and my colleagues in Congress on comprehensive tax reform, which will promote economic growth and benefit Missouri families," Hartzler said.
