Hartzler Opposes Insufficient Legislation to Protect Women
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-04) has issued a statement regarding H.R. 1620, the expanded reauthorization of the Violence Against Women’s Act (VAWA):
“Instead of reaching bipartisan consensus on the Violence Against Women Act, what is being considered today in the House is a partisan slant on legislation which was originally intended to protect women.
Sadly, avoiding input from across the aisle resulted in a bill filled with harmful gender identity provisions which weaken protections for battered women seeking shelter, while shamefully providing funds to abortion giants such as Planned Parenthood. By also allowing biological males to be included in same-sex private spaces and facilities, this bill is additionally insufficient in preventing further trauma towards women who have been abused.
For these reasons, I cannot support inadequate legislation which works against the same women it is supposed to protect.”
