Hartzler Statement on the National State of Emergency
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-04) issued the following statement after President Trump declared a national state of emergency as the administration responds to the coronavirus:
“I applaud President Trump’s decisive action to declare a national state of emergency, addressing the ongoing efforts to stop the further spread of the coronavirus,” Hartzler said.
“This announcement ushers in vital resources from the federal government to our state and local agencies, ensuring that our communities have the resources they need and are in a position to offer much-needed flexibility to our dedicated health care workers who are on the front lines of protecting Americans’ health and wellbeing.
"President Trump’s forward-leaning approach enabled a proactive private-public partnership to expedite the approval of tests through the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) regulatory process. This will allow our communities to test symptomatic patients efficiently with new drive-through test facilities and a website to expedite the process. The additional 1.4 million tests to be made available next week will be a major step in assessing the evolving situation we are facing.
"News of the FDA’s approval of a new test in record time is encouraging and bodes well for the development of a vaccine and therapeutics to treat this illness. I appreciate President Trump’s approach to mitigate this crisis by pulling together the best and brightest our country has to offer and enacting common sense steps to cut through the red tape so Americans can receive timely care.
"It is my hope is that Congress can also come together to provide the additional tools, funding, and resources we need to combat this public health crisis," Hartzler concluded.
