Hartzler Statement on President’s Immigration Executive Order
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-04) made the following statement about the executive order President Trump signed today on immigration:
“I’m pleased that President Trump has addressed the upsetting issue of children being separated from their parents at the border. Although this practice has been going on since the Obama Administration and was put in place with the intent of keeping children out of adult detention areas for extended periods of time, it is clear we need to modify this policy.
“For decades, America has felt the repercussions of a failed, outdated immigration system that has rewarded those who enter this country illegally at the expense of those who have followed the law. It has been over thirty years since meaningful immigration reform has been signed into law and now is the time to fix this system. I am hopeful we can come together on legislation that fixes the problem and that is just and fair.”
