Hartzler Supports Stopgap Funding for Troops
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-04) today issued the following statement on her vote to support stopgap funding for U.S. troops and the federal government for one month:
“While the continual pattern of funding our government using short-term spending bills is damaging to our military, a complete government shutdown would have far more serious ramifications for our men and women in uniform. Unfortunately, we are in this position today because some politicians in the Senate are holding the government hostage over illegal immigration, and they are willing to shut the government down and deny our troops funding over it. Playing politics with our military in this manner is shameful.
“There is a devastating readiness crisis plaguing every corner of the military. We have planes that cannot fly, troops that cannot deploy, and we are literally running out of bombs. It is irresponsible and morally wrong to send our troops into harm’s way without adequate resources and training, which is why shutting our government down is not an option.
“One of the primary responsibilities of Congress is to provide for the common defense, and my Democrat colleagues who want a government shutdown down are failing the American people in this way. Our troops deserve better.”
