Congresswoman Hartzler's statement on the transfer of Iranian-American Pastor Saeed to a more dangerous prison in Iran
Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has released the following statement regarding Iran’s transfer of Iranian-American pastor Saeed Abedini to a more brutal and dangerous prison than the one he has been unjustly held in for more than a year:
“It is deplorable for Iranian authorities to transfer Pastor Saeed Abedini, a U.S. citizen whose only crime is practicing his Christian faith, to a prison that houses violent inmates. It calls into question the claims of Iran’s President Rouhani that he wants to be more open to the West. If he does, indeed, wish to extend an olive branch to the West, President Rouhani could demonstrate this by removing Pastor Saeed from this dangerous prison, dropping the trumped up charges, and setting him free. I urge President Obama to use his influence with the new Iranian regime to call for the safe return of this man who has now been placed in a life-threatening situation. I continue to pray for Pastor Saeed’s safety and release.”
Congresswoman Hartzler serves on the Agriculture, House Armed Services, and Budget Committees.
