Hartzler and House pass legislation to prioritize sequestration concerns
Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) and her U.S. House colleagues are taking action to prioritize concerns about the sequestration process, which kicks in in just over 100 days. They have approved the National Security and Job Protection Act, which would help offset the cost of sequestration’s automatic across-the-board cuts in spending for national defense and important domestic programs.
“Congress must act quickly to head off these dangerous reductions that will put our national security at risk and threaten America’s fragile economy,” said Hartzler. “The House has been leading the effort to replace defense cuts with responsible savings through reform. The Senate and the Obama Administration cannot sit back any longer as these devastating cuts are scheduled to take effect in less than four months.”
“As we approach this dangerous cliff, I remind my fellow Missourians of an event I am hosting to give concerned citizens, military veterans and retirees, small business owners, local associations, and other interested parties an opportunity to share their views on cuts to national defense. The Defending Our Defenders Listening Session is scheduled for this coming Tuesday, September 18th, at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. The first responsibility of the United States government is to provide for the common defense. These significant and dangerous defense cuts must be stopped.”
The Defending Our Defenders Listening Session is open to the public. For information please go to: www.defendingourdefenders.com.
