House approves pro-growth energy legislation

June 26, 2014
Press Release

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) applauds the House of Representatives for approving a series of pro-growth energy bills including legislation aimed at lowering gas prices for American consumers.

“On my recent ‘all-of-the-above’ energy tour of Missouri’s Fourth District, hard-working citizens shared their desire to have access to a plentiful and affordable supply of energy,” said Hartzler. “The good citizens of our district want affordable energy to cool their homes in the summer and heat them in the winter. And they want their government to take action to put the brakes on ever-climbing gas prices.”

“The Lowering Gasoline Prices to Fuel an America That Works Act, H.R. 4899, combines two bills that passed in 2013 to increase domestic oil and gas production on federal lands and in offshore waters,” Hartzler continued. “It also streamlines the process for approving drilling permits and allows for more oil exploration off the coasts of California, South Carolina, and Virginia.”

“In addition, the House approved the North American Energy Infrastructure Act, H.R. 3301, to establish a new system for the approval and permitting of oil and gas pipelines and electrical transmission lines crossing the U.S. borders into Canada and Mexico,” added Hartzler. “We also passed the Domestic Preparedness and Global Freedom Act, H.R. 6, requiring the Department of Energy to expedite decisions on applications to export liquefied natural gas. America and other countries, like Ukraine, need energy. We are in a position to supply it, thereby decreasing the dependency on other countries like Russia. These common-sense bills will help remove government barriers to the flow of American energy.”

Congresswoman Hartzler serves on the Agriculture, Armed Services, and Budget Committees.
